Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (or some people prefer to call it GWK) is an attraction in south Bali you may choose to do which will take you 30 minutes drive from Kuta. The place is located in Ungasan Hill, Jimbaran Bali. The statue was built in a cultural park by a famous Balinese sculptor I Nyoman Nuarta, depicting God Vishnu while riding Garuda. Unfortunately, the whole project hasn’t been done yet, resulting in a separated parts of Vishnu’s body, Vishnu’s hand and head of Garuda. These parts have been built on a hill and is supposed to be 75 meter tall and 60 meter wide if the project is done. When that time happens, the statue will be taller than Liberty Statue. The statue itself is telling us the story about how Garuda tries to save his mother from slavery and finally Vishnu helps him with an exchange that Garuda has to become Vishnu’s ride. Visitors can see the whole story in a carved wall. The inside area is a blend of Balinese and modern architecture, features a limestone plateau cut into limestone pillars

Facilities in GWK are intended for cultural events. Five areas you will find in Garuda Wisnu Kencana are Amphitheatre, Lotus Pond, Street Theatre, Plaza Kura-Kura, and Exhibition Gallery. Amphitheatre has 800 seats capacity, intended for cultural activities. Lotus Pond is located right in front of Vishnu’s head statue where you can also see limestone pillars. Various great events are held here, could hold up to 7,500 people. Street Theatre is bordered by limestone cliffs used for parades, fashion shows, and other events requiring a long procession avenue. Plaza Kura-Kura is a smaller and more intimate venue for hospitality. This place can hold up to 200 guests. In addition, Exhibiton Gallery is a roofed courtyards which opens for public everyday and has sometimes there are exhibitions such as barong dance, face carricature, temporary tattoo which are free for tourists (just show your tickets and you can get experience all for free).
