Vietnam is known as the country of Uncle Ho (taken from the name of Vietnamese’s first President Ho Chi Minh). This country has a long history before becoming a free country today. From 1957 until 1975, Vietnam had become a war area between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was the ally of United States; whereas South Vietnam was with Soviet Union. After a big war in 1976 between them, Vietnam was really damaged for years. After war between these 2 areas was over, Vietnam was unified and become a country with a good economical growth for its tourism. The result after war turns out changing Vietnam into a beautiful historical touristic destination in present.

Not far from Cathedral, Ho Chi Minh Post Office is another unique building to visit. It was built in 1886 and the architecture adapted from European style, with high ceiling and beautiful sculptures.

In Khoi Nghia Street, there a building called Reunification Hall (formerly known as Independence Palace) which was built for President of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Former President either stayed there or made war strategies.
Still in Ho Chi Minh City, visit Chu Chi Tunnel, an underground tunnel which was used by Viet Cong guerrillas a hiding spot during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous guerrilla fighters. It is believed the tunnel connects to neighbor country to allow the guerillas to escape. Tourists can also try guerillas’ food which is boiled cassava with sugar and crushed peanut as the toppings. There is also shooting activity for tourists.
As for enjoying water activity, Mekong River Delta is a good choice. It’s the biggest delta in the world. Tourists can rent traditional boats to cross the delta and stop in some islands to drink fresh coconut water or to try coconut candies.
VIETNAMESE CUISINE
Vietnamese Cuisine is influenced by Chinese and French. In Ho Chi Minh City, remember to taste one special food called “pho”, a soup noodles complete with sprouts, fresh onion leaf and slices of beef and chicken. Another special food is “goi cuon”, a spring roll which has slice of meat, lettuce, vermicelli, and onion leaves, mint leaves, eaten with peanut sauce or other sour-and-spicy sauces.
In Saigon River, you can visit floating restaurant which is so beautiful and romantic at nights. The seafood and dim sum served there are famous.
